About

In late 2016 Gardeners Edge came to us to redesign and develop their B2C site. At the time they did not have a responsive website or a mobile site. Google's mobile first algorithm updates started to roll out in December 2016. We were able to act fast and redesign, implement, and deploy their new website by mid-February 2017.

At the time my company did not have a designer on staff, so I volunteered to take on the role of designer for this project. This was my first time taking on a full site redesign as the designer and developer. Like most things the first time you do something there are a lot of lessons and learning's. This project taught me a lot about design and gave me the confidence to do more design work in the future.

Challenge

This was the first project that I took the lead as a UX Designer as well as lead Developer. I designed and developed the website on my own, through this process I created a design process for the company that we were able to use for numerous future projects.

The ecommerce platform that the site was hosted on had it's own challenges. No source control, no way to transfer code changes between staging and production. This made for a tricky deployment, but I was able to successfully deploy with minor down time.

Conculsion

The design and implementation turned out amazing and the client loved it. Even better over the next year the site performed extremely well, and revenue increased by 50%. There were multiple factors that contributed to this increase in conversion rate and revenue but a lot of it was attributed to this project by giving their users a great experience on mobile. The site also saw a huge uptick in organic traffic from Google due to the mobile first algorithm update.
